Lake of the
Woods Campground is a family campground located just south of the Waushara
County line west of Hwy 22, 10 mi south of Wautoma.
It is owned and operated by the Scimeca Family; as it has been
since 1972. This campground
was built shortly before that, on property that has quite a history.
It’s written in a few books about the people who worked hard on a
farm, then a tree farm, then, yes, even a little “still” operation.
It wasn’t even very small to hear some old timers talk of it.
All the remnants of the still are gone now down by the river,
replaced with a new dam that was built in 1973.
Since the Scimeca’s took over, there have been many changes.
Besides putting in all the outdoor activities; such
as 18 hole mini-golf, 2 pools, playground, shuffleboard, softball
diamond, and many more improvements; there is the full bar down in the
main building. The campground
put in a beer bar in 1980, but then a full bar was rung in by all the
waiting local patrons and campers on July 1st, 1994.
The Scimeca’s have been active in the Tavern League since 1982.
Sue took over the position of Sec./Treas. upon the passing of good
friend and past local President, Sec./Treas, Vern Grosenick.
You can always catch Jack out and about, checking up on what’s
new in the Tavern League. Only
missed a couple conventions in about 20 years.
That’s always a great place to see what’s new and keep up to
date on legislative issues They serve Breakfast,
Lunch & Dinner from mid-May to Sept. 7 days a week, then open only
Thurs. to Sun. the rest of the year, with only a limited menu.
Call 920/787-3601 for more information.
They invite you to come out and enjoy the many activities open to
the public and stay tuned for any upcoming events. They have hosted
several major activities; such as “The King and his Court”, and the
Beatles band “American English” very recently, to name a couple.
